Mediterranean daysIn 1993 a group of journalists from the Associació de Dones Periodistes de Catalunya (ADPC) created the European Network of Women Journalists, a new statewide association that would start working together with Italian and Greek journalists under the umbrella of the then European Economic Community (EEC), today the European Union (EU).

Since then, we have participated in several projects and meetings, among which we point out the following:

In 1995 and taking advantage of the European summit on the Mediterranean, we organized the conference “Women, the Mediterranean and the Future” with the participation of female journalists from both shores.

We led a Daphne project, in 1997, and edited “The guide of good practices for journalists on prostitution and trafficking of women for the purpose of sexual exploitation in the media”.

We have been working since 1997 with the AFEM Association (Southern European Women’s Association) based in Paris, which brings together different women’s associations from Spain, France, Portugal, Italy and Greece. With them we were working on several studies and publications about the situation of women in Europe and decision-making.Good practices for journalists on prostitution in the media

In 1999, we collaborated with Associació Girafa and Telenorba (Radio and Television of Bari-Italia) in the realization of a radio and TV wedge against gender violence that, in Catalonia, was broadcast thanks to the collaboration of RNE-Ràdio4.

We took part in the study on the situation of women journalists in Europe, organized by the Women’s Union of Greece, in 1999. single parent families

Just before the great expansion of the EU towards the east, we organized in Barcelona, in 2000, the European meeting of journalists “Women also build Europe” in which women journalists from France, Ireland, the United Kingdom participated United, Germany, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Italy, Portugal, Estonia, Czech Republic, Slovenia and Poland.

In 2001, we collaborated with Associació Girafa and Telenorba (Radio and Television of Bari-Italia) in a study on prostitution and trafficking in women.

We participated in the publication of the study on the situation of single-parent families in Europe (2002) in Spain, Greece, Portugal, Great Britain, the Netherlands and Sweden, edited by the Women’s Union of Greece.

Since 2003, we have been working on the creation of a network of women journalists at an international level, a network that was finally set up in Morelia (Mexico) in 2005, under the name Red Internacional de Periodistas con Vision of Gender.

We were part of a pioneering initiative the Pool of Women in the Media (New York, 2005) and during the 15 days that lasted the session of the UN CSW, Beijing+10, more than a hundred women journalists from all over worked together and shared our work and resources.

This same year we participated in the study that ADPC coordinated in Spain, on the Global Media Monitoring Project carried out, worldwide, by the NGO WACC. We also participated in the 2010 edition. This study, which is carried out every 5 years, on a specific day, analyzes the information provided by the media with a gender perspective. http://whomakesthenews.org /

Women build EuropeIn 2007 we carried out a study on “How we see Romania and Bulgaria in the Catalan press”, a project that had the support of the Civil Rights Department of Barcelona City Council and the Citizen Action Secretariat of the Government of Catalonia.

Also in 2007, we interviewed Spanish MEPs and created a space on the “Construïm Europa” website where we reviewed their work in the European Chamber and the directives that the European Union legislates on gender. This project was supported by the Office of the European Parliament in Spain.

We organized the II International Meeting of Journalists with a Gender Vision in Oviedo (Asturias), a meeting that was attended by 200 journalists from Spain, Europe and Latin America.

In 2008, we drew up a Guide to associations and groups of journalists and/or communicators worldwide in order to be able to know and give visibility to the various associations of women journalists, as well as to exchange knowledge, experiences and good practices between us, as to denounce any situation of violation of women’s rights whether or not they are journalists.

In 2012 we produced a series of reports on women’s profiles and female genealogy “Portraits of women”, with the support of the Women’s Department of the Barcelona City Council. 25 interviews were conducted with women from different professional fields and we collected more than 200 pioneers.

In addition, we have held training seminars on European information, such as: EU Seminar

– Parity democracy

– Towards a European network of Women Journalists in Spain

– European information circuits

– Women and the future of Europe

We produced a paper newsletter, La red, from 1996 to 2001.

We made the first radio program in Catalonia about women and the EU called “12 Estels”. It was broadcast in 1997 on RNE-Ràdio4 and over time it would become a 1-hour weekly program. duration on European current events. It was broadcast until 2006.

We will convene a journalistic award “Women in the European Union” from 1997 to 2003, subsidized by the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Catalan Pro-Europe Board.

We will create, for TVE-Catalunya, the space “The minute of the Euro”. 40 episodes, 1 minute long, were made about the new currency, which were broadcast from December 2000 to February 2001.

Our association is an active part of the Catalan Women’s Council of Catalonia (CNDC), an organization that advises the Catalan government on gender issues, of the Association of European Journalists of Catalonia (APEC), of the Pool of Women in the Media or of the International Network with Gender Vision.
