We launched this award from 1997 to 2003 and, with it, we wanted to give visibility to the work done by women in the various fields. At the beginning, the award ceremony coincided with Europe Day. Below is the list of awardees:
1997 – Teresa Carreras, TVE correspondent in Brussels. The prize is presented by the European Commissioner for Consumption, Fisheries and Humanitarian Aid, Emma Bonino.
1998 – “Europa, Europa”, program directed by journalist Rosa Díez, from Euskaltelevista. The prize is presented by the vice-presidents of the European Parliament, Josep Verde Aldea and Antoni Gutiérrez Díaz.
1999 – Jaime Arias, La Vanguardia journalist, with Montserrat Minobis. Jordi Pujol, president of the Generalitat, presents the award.
2000 – “O mía o de nadie”, by journalist Núria Ribó, report on domestic violence broadcast by TVE. British historian Hugh Thomas presents the award.
2001 – “Europa al día”, program directed by Mª Lluïsa Colominas, Channel 9-TV Valenciana. The prize is presented by the European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs, Pedro Solbes.
2002 – Gabriela Cañas, correspondent for El País in Brussels. The prize is presented by the European Commissioner for Labor and Social Affairs, Anna Diamantopoulou.
2003 – Fabiola Calvo, European correspondent for the Latin American news agency for women, Cimac. The Spanish vice-presidents of the European Parliament, Alonso Puerta, Alejo Vidal-Quadras and Joan Colom, present the award.
